For years, the only crypto ETFs available in the US were Bitcoin and Ethereum. That changed this week: Bitwise's staked Solana ETF, BSOL, went live on the New York Stock Exchange and did ~$220 million in trading in its first hours. Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas called it "Impressive." The altcoin ETF era has officially started.
BSOL (staked Solana): ~$220M in first-hours trading · Litecoin and HBAR ETFs also launched, ~$4M and ~$400K in first-hour volume · 155 crypto ETF applications tracking 35 assets awaiting SEC decisions · 200+ new crypto ETFs expected in the next 12 months · Bitcoin + Ethereum ETFs have pulled in over $100B combined since 2024
BSOL isn't the first Solana ETF, but it's the first registered under the Securities Act of 1933 — the framework that gives stronger investor protections, better market access, and in-kind creation and redemption, making it easier to buy through a normal brokerage account. Other recent products (like the DOJE and XRPR funds) were structured under the 40-Act route, which trades weaker marketing and distribution allowances for a faster launch. The '33 Act versions are the institutional-grade ones.
